How to Read This Chart
This alluvial diagram shows the geographic movements of major characters across the ten volumes of the Malazan Book of the Fallen. Time flows left to right, with one column per book.
Columns represent books (1 through 10). Each column lists the locations where tracked characters are present during that book.
Location boxes are sized by how many tracked characters are at that location in that book. They are color-coded by continent.
Colored ribbons flow between columns, each representing a single character's journey from their location in one book to their location in the next.
Hover over any ribbon to see the character's name, origin, and destination. The character's entire journey across all books will be highlighted.
Click a character name in the legend above to toggle their ribbons on or off, letting you isolate individual journeys.
Characters only appear in books where the data tracks them. Gaps mean the character is absent or not a point-of-view in that volume.
Book labels at the top of each column are clickable — they link to detailed summaries and chapter breakdowns for each book.
16 major characters are tracked across 18 locations and 6 continental groupings, covering all ten volumes of the series.
