Bidithal
Also known as: — | Race: Human | Warren/Affiliation: Rashan (Darkness), ShadowSummary
Bidithal is a mage serving in Sha'ik's Whirlwind Rebellion — one of the most repulsive characters in the series. A former priest who was castrated and disfigured by Sha'ik Elder for his crimes against children, Bidithal is a pedophile and predator who uses his magical power and political position to continue his abuse.
Bidithal represents the darkest aspect of the series' unflinching engagement with evil — he is not a grand villain with cosmic ambitions but a petty, monstrous predator who thrives in the chaos of war and revolution. His presence in Sha'ik's court is a constant reminder that rebellion does not automatically produce justice.
Arc by Book
Book 4: House of Chains
Bidithal serves as one of the High Mages in Sha'ik's court, wielding shadow magic of considerable power. Despite his castration by the previous Sha'ik, he continues to prey on children, using his position and magic to shield himself from consequences.
His primary antagonist is Karsa Orlong (Toblakai), who serves as Sha'ik's bodyguard. Karsa discovers Bidithal's crimes and is repulsed. The Teblor warrior's response to Bidithal is characteristically direct and violent — Karsa ultimately kills Bidithal, ending his predation in one of the series' most satisfying acts of violence.
Bidithal is also politically active, maneuvering within Sha'ik's court and competing with Febryl and L'oric for influence. His shadow magic is genuinely formidable, making him dangerous even to those who despise him.
