L'oric

Summary

L'oric is a High Mage serving with the Whirlwind Rebellion in Sha'ik's army of the Apocalypse. He is secretly the son of Osserc (Osseric), a Tiste Liosan ascendant, which gives him access to Kurald Thyrllan — the warren of light — a heritage he keeps hidden.

L'oric is one of the more enigmatic figures in Sha'ik's court, a mage of considerable power who serves the rebellion for reasons that are never entirely clear. His motivations are personal and obscure, and he navigates the dangerous politics of Sha'ik's inner circle with careful neutrality.

Book 4: House of Chains

L'oric serves as one of the High Mages in Sha'ik's army, alongside Febryl, Bidithal, and the ghost-handed Heboric. He is one of the few members of the inner circle who is neither corrupt (like Febryl) nor monstrous (like Bidithal), making him a relatively sympathetic figure in an otherwise bleak court.

L'oric's subplot involves his investigation of the convergence of Soletaken and D'ivers near Raraku and his encounters with the Tiste Liosan, who recognize his heritage. He also works to counter Febryl's assassination plot against Sha'ik.

L'oric's relationship with his father Osserc is strained — like many parent-child relationships in the series, it is marked by absence, expectation, and disappointment.

L'oric continues to appear, his Tiste Liosan heritage becoming more relevant as the cosmic conflicts intensify. His access to Kurald Thyrllan provides unique capabilities but also draws dangerous attention.
