Mammot is a High Priest of D'riss and an eminent scholar in Darujhistan, and — crucially — the uncle of Crokus Younghand. A member of the T'orrud Cabal, the informal council of powerful mages who secretly protect the city, Mammot is a gentle, scholarly man whose fate becomes one of the tragedies of the convergence in Gardens of the Moon.
Arc by Book
Book 1: Gardens of the Moon
Mammot serves as a mentor figure to his nephew Crokus, providing the young thief with the only stable family connection in his life. As a High Priest of D'riss and a member of the T'orrud Cabal alongside Baruk, Derudan, and others, Mammot is part of Darujhistan's hidden magical defense network.
During the convergence at Darujhistan, Mammot is possessed by the released spirit of the Jaghut Tyrant Raest — or more precisely, he becomes a vessel through which Raest channels power. The possession destroys Mammot's mind and ultimately his body, transforming the gentle scholar into a conduit for ancient, destructive sorcery.
Mammot's death is deeply personal for Crokus, stripping the young thief of his last anchor to a normal life and pushing him further into the world of gods and assassins. For the T'orrud Cabal, the loss of Mammot is a wound that weakens their collective power.
