Scabandari Bloodeye
Also known as: Father Shadow | Race: Tiste Edur (Eleint Soletaken) | Warren/Affiliation: Kurald EmurlahnSummary
Scabandari Bloodeye — worshipped as Father Shadow by the Tiste Edur — is one of the most important figures in the deep history of the Malazan world. An ancient Tiste Edur Soletaken Eleint (dragon), Scabandari led the Edur invasion of the world from Kurald Emurlahn, allied with Silchas Ruin and the Tiste Andii. He then betrayed Silchas, stabbing him in the back and burying him alive, before being destroyed himself by Gothos and the Azath.
Scabandari's betrayal and its consequences reverberate across the entire series. The Tiste Edur worship him as a noble ancestor god, unaware of the full truth of his treachery. His actions shattered Kurald Emurlahn into fragments, creating the fractured warren of Shadow that Shadowthrone and Cotillion later claim.

Book 5: Midnight Tides
Scabandari's history is revealed in the prologue of Midnight Tides, which depicts the ancient Tiste invasion of the world. The Tiste Edur (led by Scabandari) and the Tiste Andii (led by Silchas Ruin) arrive as conquerors, devastating the indigenous K'Chain Che'Malle and others. After their victory, Scabandari betrays Silchas Ruin — driving an Imass flint knife into his back and then burying him in an Azath tower.
Scabandari's own fate follows quickly: the Jaghut Gothos arrives and ensures that Scabandari too is imprisoned, his soul trapped in a Finnest while his body is destroyed. The mutual destruction of both Tiste leaders shapes the subsequent history of the continent.
In the present-day narrative, the Tiste Edur revere Father Shadow as their founding ancestor, and the search for his Finnest (soul-vessel) drives much of the plot. Hannan Mosag's quest for power is connected to the legacy of Scabandari.
