Arc by Book
Book 1: Gardens of the Moon
Trotts serves as a soldier in the 9th Squad during the Siege of Pale and the subsequent mission to Darujhistan. He is one of the squad's most physically imposing members, a warrior whose Barghast heritage makes him stand out among the predominantly human soldiers.
Book 3: Memories of Ice
Trotts plays a pivotal role when the Bridgeburners encounter the White Face Barghast. His Barghast blood gives him a unique position — he is both a Malazan soldier and a member of the Barghast people, and his heritage becomes diplomatically crucial when Onearm's Host needs to ally with the White Face clans under Humbrall Taur.
Trotts fights Humbrall Taur's chosen champion in ritual combat, winning the right for the Malazans to be heard. This victory helps forge the alliance between the Barghast and the Malazan-Brood coalition against the Pannion Domin.
Trotts dies during the campaign, killed in the fighting. His death is one of the many losses that diminish the Bridgeburners during their final campaign.
