Spindle
Also known as: — | Race: Human | Warren/Affiliation: Mockra (illusion), also a sapperSummary
Spindle is a Bridgeburner mage and sapper serving in the 7th Squad under Sergeant Antsy. He is distinctive for wearing a hairshirt woven from his dead mother's hair — a garment that emits a nauseating magical aura that repels nearly everyone around him. Spindle is both a competent mage (specializing in Mockra, the warren of illusion and the mind) and a sapper (demolitions expert), making him an unusually versatile soldier.
Spindle's eccentric behavior, his revolting hairshirt, and his cheerful obliviousness to the disgust he inspires make him one of the Bridgeburners' most memorable minor characters.
Arc by Book
Book 3: Memories of Ice
Spindle serves in the 7th Squad during the campaign against the Pannion Domin. His dual skills as mage and sapper prove valuable — he can both set explosives and provide magical support. His hairshirt, woven from his mother's hair, radiates a psychic emanation that causes unease and nausea in those around him, making him deeply unpopular.
He participates in the fighting at Capustan and the Siege of Coral, surviving the Fall of the Bridgeburners.
Book 8: Toll the Hounds
Spindle has settled in Darujhistan with the other Bridgeburner veterans at K'rul's Bar. He has apparently given up his hairshirt (to the relief of everyone) and lives a relatively quiet civilian life.
