Vorcan
Also known as: Mistress of the Guild, Master of Assassins, Lady Varada | Race: Human (implied ascendant-level power) | Warren/Affiliation: Guild of Assassins, DarujhistanSummary
Vorcan is the Mistress of the Guild of Assassins in Darujhistan — the mysterious and feared leader of the city's organized assassination network. Rarely seen and almost never directly encountered, Vorcan's very existence is semi-mythical to most of the city's inhabitants. She is a figure of extraordinary skill and power, commanding enough respect and fear to control Darujhistan's assassins from the shadows.
Vorcan appears briefly but dramatically in Gardens of the Moon during the convergence at Darujhistan, and returns in Toll the Hounds under the identity Lady Varada, adding further complexity to her enigmatic character.
Arc by Book
Book 1: Gardens of the Moon
Vorcan acts during the Night of the Convergence when she accepts a contract from Councilman Turban Orr to eliminate members of the T'orrud Cabal — the informal council of mages who secretly protect Darujhistan. Her intervention in the convergence puts her in conflict with Anomander Rake, demonstrating her extraordinary power.
Vorcan is badly wounded during the convergence and disappears from the city's stage.
Book 8: Toll the Hounds
Vorcan resurfaces in Darujhistan under the name Lady Varada. Her return is connected to the larger events of the convergence that strikes the city. She interacts with Rallick Nom, who has returned from the Azath House, and the two share a complicated relationship.
